FOURTH SIX WEEKS

This week is all about getting back into the routine of interviewing and know the expectations in the press room.
Monday , January 3 - Prep Day
Tuesday, January 4 - Great Expectations. The Year in Review. Share your holiday memories with a personal interview.
Math Counts - POD
Tell Tales Book Club - POD
Wednesday, January 5 - Type your personal interview (completed before the holidays) in journalistic format. Double space. Use Ariel Narrow pt. size 11 with a heading. Spell check and indent for quotes and transitional paragraphs. This should be a BRIEF about holiday memories and the meaning of giving. Print, turn in and we will do a gallery walk to share.

This week is all about writing a review and how to create revenue by selling ads.
Business Manager to:

  • Promote the newspaper  by talking about the print edition in your advisory class and the online edition. Ask students to subscribe so t hat they are notified when a new article is posted.. Create a fun flyer about business ads and how to find our online news.
  • Plan to attend one 8th grade guys and one ladies basketball game to promote business ads.
  • Prepare the ADVERTISING  table prior to the game so parents can purchase a business ad or pick up a form. Date TBD.

Thursday, January 13 - Using journalistic style write a review about a favorite TV show (or movie or book). You may  use the Internet to get showtimes, actors names, etc.  Print and turn in. Be sure to check out the  e-edition of the Statesman (Lifestyles section- to find reviews of movies, books and plays, etc.). We will share these on Friday with a  gallery walk. Details count. You don’t have to be invisible. You get to rant and rave.

You should turn in your commentaries (pet peeve) no later than Wed. Hannah is the art director for the cover. She will make arrangements for the cover photo shoot (after school on a sunny day - I will be here after school Friday - so that may be a good day.)

Work on your articles. Be sure to copy your photos to the in box for photos for 4th edition, use lots of quotes, include details and use the thesaurus as you write.
Make sure you have taken these two tests - Test over what makes a great review and  Test over writing a commentary, editorial or review. Pet Peeve article, Warhol project and your Review should be turned in. Save all to the correct IN Drop Box. Print out the pages and place in the IN Box on the table as well.
